Good Morning!Happy Summer Solstice and to all my pagan friends Merry Litha! It's a glorious day and my body feels it! I woke up with so much energy and joy. I was going to my car and the sun's rays today was just so rejuvenating! Summer is here and I love it. I would love it more if I didn't have to spend the day in an office but pickers can't be choosers, gotta make ma' money! But one thing to look forward to is the hippie/peace thing at Elizabeth park today, I still need to find someone to go with! So in celebration of this lovely day... here's... a little history lesson!
Summer Solstice/Midsummer is also called Litha by modern day Neo-pagan. stemming from Bede's De temporum ratione in which he gave the Anglo-Saxon names for the months roughly corresponding to June and July as "se Ærra Liþa" and "se Æfterra Liþa" (the "early Litha month" and the "later Litha month") with an inter-calary month of "Liþa" appearing after se Æfterra Liþa on leap years. The fire festival or Lith- Summer solstice is a tradition for many pagans. (via wiki)
Basically it's the celebration of the longest day of the year, when the sun representing the Lord is at the peak of it's power. Beltane has passed and the Lord and Lady has consummated their union and now they rule together and bless the land. Great day to harvest herbs and bless crystals. I'm blessing my jade necklace :) Midsummer night was yesterday and according to tradition, the veils between the worlds are thin so the feys pass willingly from one to the next so don't be surprised if you see/find something unexpected today :)
